Our Story
Border Media was founded in 2017 in New York with a clear purpose: to build meaningful media that serves real communities.
From the beginning, the company has focused on preserving the value of local broadcasting while embracing modern media innovation.
Border Media was co-founded by Ricki Lee and Hanna Kaleta after relocating to the United States in 2015 to expand their work in media and broadcasting. With backgrounds in radio, technology, and digital audio platforms, they saw an opportunity to invest in local stations that had strong community roots but needed new energy and long-term vision.
In 2018, Border Media acquired WRGR 102.1 FM in Tupper Lake, New York. After receiving FCC approval, the station was brought back on air and reintroduced with programming designed to reflect the character, interests, and voices of the local audience. 102.1 Lake FM was born.

This marked a defining moment for Border Media and set the tone for future growth. This FCC approval made history. It gained significant attention for being one of the first radio acquisitions to receive FCC approval for 100% foreign ownership. Ricki Lee became the first British person ever to be allowed to own radio stations in the United States of America, Hanna the first Polish person. together, the first Europeans.

Border Media is led by Ricki Lee. With decades of experience across broadcasting and media technology, Ricki brings a practical, operator-focused approach to building sustainable media businesses.
He is also known for co-founding Aiir, and serves as the company's CEO. Aiir is an audio technology company that provides digital tools to radio stations worldwide. His experience at the intersection of media and technology continues to shape Border Media’s strategy and direction.
Today, Border Media remains committed to serving communities through thoughtful programming, responsible ownership, and a long-term perspective on media. The company believes that strong local media plays an essential role in connecting people, supporting culture, and sharing stories that matter.
As Border Media looks ahead, its mission remains unchanged: to invest in media that respects its audience, values authenticity, and continues to evolve with the changing media landscape.
